2016 Annual Conference

25th IAFFE Annual Conference

Transitions and Transformations in Gender Equality

June 24-26, 2016 | National University of Ireland - Galway

Call for Papers

With the conference theme "Transitions and Transformations in Gender Equality" for the 25th IAFFE Annual Conference in 2016, IAFFE invites scholars and activists of feminist inquiry to reflect on "movements" in gender equality in the broadest sense of the term. The theme opens itself up to both theoretical and political advances in feminist thinking and practice, expanding the concept of intersectionality to capture transitions and transformations as well as tensions and challenges across socio-economics regimes, generations, institutions and borders. For instance, today feminist studies of intersectionality are compelled to account for the unprecedented challenges of cross-border movements due to war, arising from economic crises and climate change, of fundamental shifts in labour markets and welfare systems on care/social reproduction. Papers or roundtables may also address the intellectual contributions and transformation of IAFFE and the way IAFFE has been shaped by increasingly interdependent global relations. Panel proposals and individual paper submissions related to any aspect of feminist inquiry into economic issues are invited. Interdisciplinary approaches are welcome.

Submissions: Abstracts must be submitted online via the IAFFE website beginning in January 2016. Submissions can be made for roundtables, panels or individual papers. Participants are limited to one paper presentation and one roundtable or appearance on a panel. Additional co-authored papers are allowed only if they are presented by the co-author. These limitations will allow maximum participation by all members wishing to participate.

Deadline for Submission: The deadline for submission has passed. We are no longer accepting submissions for the 25th IAFFE Annual Conference.

Please note: You must be registered by May 5 to be included in the conference program.

Important Participation Guidelines

IAFFE has a Paper Submission Policy that reflects our desire to promote opportunities for wide participation among individuals.  The following guidelines apply to the submission of papers for the IAFFE Annual Conference:

  • Participants are limited to two appearances on the program (excluding the role of the Chair)
  • Participants are limited to one formal paper and one informal roundtable/panel discussion
  • Participants are free to be a co-author on a second paper so long as their co-author is presenting the paper
  • None of the limitations would exclude a participant from chairing a session
  • Please note that once you have submitted your abstract you will not be able to edit it

We appreciate you willingness to follow these guidelines.

We ask that you submit your abstract via Conference Maker

Session Submissions

If you would like to submit a session, please do so via "Submit a Session" Conference Maker.  All abstracts must be submitted individually prior to creating a session.

Please Note: A session is a group of paper presentations around the same general theme. It is possible that sessions submitted with four or fewer papers may have additional papers added to it at a later date.

Panel/Roundtable Submissions

If you would like to submit a panel/roundtable, please do so via "Submit a Session" on Conference Maker.  All panel/rountable participants must have a Conference Maker ID prior to creating the panel/roundtable.

Please Note: A panel/roundtable does not include presentation of papers, it is only a group of people coming together to discuss a given topic.

If you have any questions about the submission process or you would prefer that we create the panel/roundtable for you, please email conference@iaffe.org.

The deadline for submissions has passed. We are no longer accepting submissions for the 25th IAFFE Annual Conference.

Pre-Conference Workshop

IAFFE will hold a Pre-Conference Workshop on Thursday, June 23, 1:30p - 5p

The pre-conference workshop is designed for scholars and activists new to feminist economics. It provides presentations by established scholars in the field. While precise topics vary from year to year, in general we include an overview to the subject along with presentations on specific topics such as feminist economics methodologies, caring labor, diversity in economics, and global perspectives on gender and economics.  We also generally provide career-building presentations and discussions, such as publishing feminist economics research and developing a media presence.  Further details to follow.  There is no additional fee to attend this workshop.

If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Collins at acollins@iaffe.org.
