Consistently ranked among top women’s studies and economics journals, Feminist Economics is the official journal of the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) and was founded in 1994 by Diana Strassmann.
"At the time the journal was founded, few economists were receptive to challenges to the gendered assumptions underlying the theoretical foundations of the field. My goal was to build a journal that enhanced the rigor of economic discourse by considering all people in the economy, including women, children and the elderly. Much of the work we've published looks at the interaction between what happens in markets and what happens in the home, including unpaid work and caring labor. For example, a macro policy designed to increase economic growth might change how spouses interact in households or how children are cared for.
Now in its second decade, the journal has attained international recognition for the quality and importance of its scholarship. I've worked hard to build a journal that could change the way economists think about the economy so that all human lives are treated as equally important. Many talented people devote an extraordinary amount of work to this journal because they share the commitment to improving the well-being of all people."
