Hamilton, NY USA

Ulla Grapard is Associate Professor of Economics and Women's Studies at Colgate University in upstate New York.  She received her Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University. Her teaching and research are centered on women and gender in economics, the gendered and racial underpinnings of economic theory, and comparative analyses of gender and public policy.  Among other courses, she teaches an extended study course on The Scandinavian Welfare State: A Gendered Perspective, which allows her to return briefly to her native country, Denmark, every other year, and to introduce her students to Danish gender researchers (including several IAFFE members), and their work.  Her recent publications include "Trading Bodies, Trade in Bodies: The 1878 Paris World Exhibition as Economic Discourse" in Postcolonialism Meets Economics, edited by Eiman Zein-Elabdin and S. Charusheela (2004).  In addition to book chapters, Ulla's work has appeared in The Elgar Companion to Feminist Economics, Journal of Economic Issues, and Feminist Economics. With co-editor Gillian Hewitson, she is currently compiling an anthology entitled: Robinson Crusoe's Economic Man. Ulla is a founding member of IAFFE. She has attended every single IAFFE conference to date, and has organized IAFFE sessions at the Eastern Economic Association meetings several times. She brings to her candidature substantial prior experience. A Board member during 2003-2006, she chaired the Nominating Committee in 2004.  She has also been actively involved in IAFFE's current transition, and is particularly keen on seeing IAFFE's activities and reach grow internationally.
