Xiao-yuan Dong is Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Winnipeg, Canada, and an adjunct Professor of the China Center of Economic Research, Beijing University. She received her doctorate from the University of Alberta, Canada. Her research focuses on China's economic transition and development. She has published in a very wide range of journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Comparative Economics, World Development, Canadian Journal of Economics, Cambridge Journal of Economics, New Left Review, Journal of Development Studies, China Economic Review, Economics of Transition, Modern China, Food Policy, IDS Bulletin, Canadian Journal of Development Studies, Pacific Economic Review, and Journal of Asian Business. She is a guest editor for the forthcoming special issue of Feminist Economics on Gender, China, and the WTO. She has also done commissioned studies on China's labor market reform, and on Chinese women, and been a consultant on agricultural cooperatives with China's Ministry of Agriculture. She helped establish the Chinese Women Economist Network (CHWEN) in December 2003 and has since served as Chair of the Network's advisory committee. In 2002 she initiated the post-graduate research and mentoring program for Chinese Women Economists sponsored by the Ford Foundation, and is currently the program's Director. She has also served on the board of the Chinese Economists Society since 2003.
