Director of Membership Management & Engagement


IAFFE is hiring a Director of Membership Management and Engagement to play a lead role in managing the strategic membership goals of IAFFE through management and implementation of membership development, engagement and retention activities. The person in this position will coordinate with the IAFFE board and will be responsible for implementing and managing IAFFE’s priorities with regard to membership engagement and development. Top candidates will have outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrate strengths and experience in communications, leadership, initiating new projects, and collaboration. Previous work in a non-profit, education, or academic association environment is a plus. If you are an organized, driven, self-starter, then this is the position for you.

Primary responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement regular communications with members via e-newsletter.
  • Support, revive, and guide thematic groups in areas of interest to the membership
  • Develop and guide online career development tool
  • Develop and implement IAFFE’s new member engagement process
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate committee(s) to develop and implement certain components of the conference to optimize experiences for young scholars
  • Launch, manage and promote use of online engagement platform to facilitate new activities, such as webinars and virtual workshops, and new networking opportunities
  • Develop and implement New Member Engagement process – launch to retention
  • Collaborate with IAFFE Board, committees, and staff as needed

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Guide relationships with existing members and keep them informed of IAFFE’s current capacities
  • Assist in database maintenance and generate periodic performance reports. Manage reporting systems to track member participation, member positions and other membership information
  • Collaborate on member recruitment effort
  • Initiate opportunities for member/potential member outreach both verbal and written as well as occasions to incorporate IAFFE advocacy into recruitment and retention activities.
  • Work collaboratively to develop, design and update membership recruitment and retention materials and resources
  • Generate and recommend methods and programs to increase member engagement in the achievement of the goals of the organization
  • Develop an understanding of IAFFE’s work to find innovative ways to connect us to new partners

Background & Skills Required: 

  • 3+ years of experience in an association/non profit environment related to membership, education, or communications is required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to listen and find common ground among diverse interests
  • Experience with on-line platforms and social media to support communication with member-based organizations
  • Ability to develop membership programs with specific objectives and quantifiable results
  • Demonstrated flexibility, drive, and ability to work in a creative, minimally-structured environment
  • Experience with non-profit organizations and familiarity with the academic world
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree

This a grant-funded position, with funding for three years.
