DUTIES OF IAFFE BOARD MEMBERS AND NON-BOARD MEMBERS WITH APPOINTED POSITIONS June 1999
PRESIDENT: (1-year term) Takes office at the Board’s meeting in January which is held in conjunction with the Allied Social Science Associations National Convention.
1. As incoming President, presides at the Board and the Business/Membership meeting.
2. Presides at the Board and Business/Membership meetings held during the IAFFE Conference.
3. With the Executive Committee of the Board makes decisions for the Association between Board meetings.
4. Is responsible for IAFFE Conference Program
6. Is a voting member of the Executive Committee.
PAST-PRESIDENT: After serving as President: (1-year term)
1. Is an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee.
PRESIDENT-ELECT: (1 year term)
Although the term of office officially begins at the January Board meeting, the President-Elect is responsible for the following year's ASSA program and prior to the Business/Membership Meeting should have contacted the Executive Secretary about the various ASSA deadlines.
1. Serves as Program Chairperson for the Association's Meetings held in conjunction with the ASSA meetings. (a) issues a call for papers. (b) presents a preliminary program in March to the Executive Committee and Conference Committee.
2. Is a voting member of the Board.
VICE-PRESIDENTS: (3-year terms)
1. With the Executive Secretary, may develop a plan to promote membership and reports on membership promotional activities to the Executive Committee.
2. Promotes a greater public awareness of the importance of feminist economics and the professional work being done by the members of the Association on feminist economic issues both in the public domain and in the private sector.
3. Is a voting member of the Board.
BOARD MEMBER: (3-year term)
1. Attends business meetings (at the beginning and the end of the term of office) which are held in conjunction with the Allied Social Science Associations National Convention, and the IAFFE Conference.
2. Promotes a greater public awareness of the importance of feminist economics and the professional work being done by the members of the Association on feminist economic issues both in the public domain and in the private sector.
3. Is a voting member of the Board.
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY/ TREASURER (Appt. by Board)
1. Is responsible for all deposits and disbursements of Association funds.
2. Prepares the budget for the Association (a preliminary budget for the following year is presented at the Board meeting at the Summer Conference meeting; a budget for the following year is presented at the January business meeting).
3. Reports on the active/inactive status of the Association membership.
4. Notifies members in November and records dues when paid.
5. Prepares an annual listing of the membership.
6. Is a voting member of the Board.
7. With the president prepares a preliminary agenda for the meeting and the annual business meeting.
8. Prepares minutes for the meeting and the annual business meeting.
9. Attends the ASSA meeting of member secretaries, providing input from the Association as to the cities where the annual meetings will be held and as to the general planning for those meetings.
10. Works with the ASSA and the IAFFE President-Elect on the program for the annual meetings; proofs galleys for ASSA program book, especially those pages relating directly to IAFFE sessions.
11. Arranges for and sets menus for the IAFFE Business/Membership meeting.
12. Mails to the members for the Association's annual meetings; whenever possible this mailing is to include the ballots and biographical sketches.
13. Prepares and annually updates listing of the members of the Board and circulates the listing to Committee members.
14. Works with the Vice-President promoting membership in the Association.
15. Maintains the membership and institution mailing lists.
16. Mails Newsletter to domestic (bulk) and foreign (surface) subscribers.
17. Invoices agents (as desired) and non-agent subscribers.
EDITOR, FEMINIST ECONOMICS: (3-year term, appointed by Board)
1. Selects materials for each issue.
2. Manages the refereeing process.
EDITOR, NEWSLETTER:
1. Gathers material for the Newsletter, (appointed as including information on Association meetings and non-voting member activities, members' publications and personal news, by Executive Committee new members, and obituaries. for term of office that is not fixed.
Nominating Committee
1. Chairs the Nominating Committee.
(a) appoints four other Committee members in consultation with the chair for the previous year and Executive Director--keeping in mind the international dimension of the association. (b) assembles a slate of candidates as follows: President-Elect - one candidate Vice-President - one candidate Board - three candidates. (c) submits the slate to the board by October. (d) Requests biographical information from the various candidates for the Executive Committee and prepares biographical sketches; (e) notifies the candidates that they have been officially nominated to run in the next election and sends each one a copy of "Duties of Board, Vice President and President and those with appointed positions who are not board members. (f) Informs the Executive Secretary that the approved candidates have been notified. A listing of members who have been nominated in the past is available from the Executive Director. (g) Notifies candidates of the election results.
