• Recordings will be available by July 30 (or sooner). You will be notified through the app as sessions become available throughout the month. We apologize for the delay but wanted to give presenters an opportunity to opt-out if they don’t want their session made available.
• To that end, if you don’t want your session recording to be posted within Whova (meaning: it would appear unlisted on YouTube, and accessible only through Whova or if you share the link directly) please let us know byFriday, July 7. Note: Plenaries will be made public on YouTube by Monday.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Whova suggests you use the CHROME browser for the web app. Other streaming software may have compatibility issues with other browsers.

Guía del Usuario de Whova para participantes (Attendees): Use esta guía para saber cómo configurar su cuenta Whova en su computador (usando la aplicación web) o en su teléfono (usando la aplicación móvil).

Here are the steps for creating an account in Whova on your computer using the webaop / 

1. Click on the Whova button/logo below.
2. When you click on the link you will be taken to Whova's web app sign in screen.
3. Assuming you do not already have a Whova account you will click on "Sign up." 
4. You will be asked for your name, email address, and to create a password.  Please make sure to use the email you used when registering for the conference. Otherwise it won’t allow you to join the event.
5. The web app will automatically take you to the main Whova page for the conference.
6. NOTE: If you find you are not able to login because you do not know the email that you used when you registered, send an emial to acollins@iaffe.org to request the Event Invitation Code. Put "event invitation code" in the subject of your email so it can be identified quickly.

Para crear una cuenta en Whova en su computador usando la aplicación web:

1. Haga clic en el botón / logotipo de Whova
2. Al hacer clic en el enlace, se le dirigirá a la pantalla de inicio de sesión de la aplicación web de Whova.
3. Si usted no tiene una cuenta de Whova, haga clic en "Registrarse".

Sustaining Life: Challenges of Multidimensional Crises

Sustaining life requires inclusive and resilient economic and political systems and the sustainability of our environment.  Feminist economics continues to offer a vital set of intellectual perspectives and methodologies with which to analyze these issues. Our economic and political systems are failing to address human needs and ecological fragility, particularly with the growing rise of illiberal democracies. Our societies face pressures to divide along lines of race, religion, nationality, gender, and sexual identity.  Borders are increasingly shutting people out and walls are being built. Globally, women face threats to their jobs, their livelihoods and their bodily integrity. The global pandemic has exacerbated all of these challenges.  Against this backdrop, new economic visions and tools are needed and feminist approaches are essential. Feminist economics has long looked beyond the simplifications that are embedded in the categories, methods, and models of mainstream economics and welcomes insights from other disciplines. Our approaches look at activities within the socially constructed categories of households, firms, communities, and the state; we consider economic activity both inside and outside markets; and we seek a more integrated understanding of human well-being in which productive and reproductive activities are valued. The IAFFE 2021 Conference will provide a forum for scholarship and inquiry that recognizes the methodological pluralism of our field. We define our field broadly and welcome research that brings a feminist lens to topics both micro and macro, local and global. We invite you to join us for this virtual conference, hosted by the Quito Local Committee.

Sostenibilidad de la vida: retos en un contexto de crisis multidimensional

Sostener la vida requiere de la confluencia de sistemas económicos y políticos inclusivos y resilientes, así como de la sostenibilidad del medio ambiente. La economía feminista ofrece perspectivas intelectuales y metodológicas para analizar el sostenimiento de la vida de forma integral. Actualmente, nuestros sistemas económicos y políticos son incapaces de satisfacer las necesidades humanas y de enfrentar, a la vez, la fragilidad de los ecosistemas, particularmente en el marco del resurgimiento de gobiernos reaccionarios. Nuestras sociedades se caracterizan cada vez más por tensiones de raza, etnia, religión, nacionalidad, género e identidad sexual que fomentan las divisiones; y las fronteras son cada vez más excluyentes, con barreras de todo tipo. En este contexto, las mujeres enfrentan amenazas a sus posibilidades de generar ingresos y a su integridad física. La pandemia global solamente ha exacerbado estos retos.

Frente a estos retos, se requieren nuevas visiones económicas y metodológicas dentro de las cuales, las perspectivas feministas son esenciales. La economía feminista se ha caracterizado por ir más allá de las simplificaciones imbuidas en las categorías, métodos y modelos del pensamiento económico convencional, incorporando también en esta reflexión visiones provenientes de otras disciplinas. Desde nuestra perspectiva, la organización de la economía incluye actividades, interacciones, transacciones y relaciones que ocurren en los hogares, empresas, comunidades y el estado - como categorías socialmente construidas - así como dentro y fuera de los mercados. Por ello buscamos un entendimiento más integrado del bienestar, en el que los ámbitos productivo y reproductivo son visibilizados y valorados. El Congreso de la Asociación Internacional para la Economía Feminista – IAFFE - de 2021 será un foro de debate académico que reconoce el pluralismo metodológico del campo de conocimiento de la economía en su definición más amplia, como sistema y como disciplina. En este sentido, acogemos y damos la bienvenida a investigaciones y experiencias que apliquen la perspectiva feminista en los ámbitos macro, meso y micro de la economía, así como en las problemáticas económicas locales y globales. Les invitamos a acompañarnos en este congreso virtual, auspiciado por el Comité Local de Quito.

PRE-CONFERENCE & MENTORING WORKSHOP

The IAFFE Pre-Conference & Mentoring Workshop is designed for scholars and activists new to feminist economics. It provides presentations by established scholars in the field. While precise topics vary from year to year, in general we include an overview to the subject along with presentations on specific topics such as feminist economics methodologies, caring labor, diversity in economics, and global perspectives on gender and economics.

All conference attendess are cordially invited. The speakers and workshop organizers, all seasoned members of IAFFE, will present on a range of topics, intended to acclimate those new to feminist economics to the area, as well as to spark discussion and foster creative approaches to research and participation in the feminist economics program.

This year the workshop is bilingual with both Spanish and English.
