IAFFE Statement re Toxic Environment for Women in Economics in the U.S.

The findings of talented undergraduate economics student Alice Wu's analysis of the derogatory, misogynist discussion of women economists on the Economics Job Market Rumors website must be addressed by economists' professional organizations in the U.S. Female economists are being crippled by a hostile environment silently tolerated by the profession, expressed openly on EJMR and presumably less publicly elsewhere. The leadership of the American Economics Association and all other U.S. economics associations must condemn the toxic culture characterizing the Economics Job Market Rumors website, end any financial or other connection to this website and require that no economics forum operate with anonymity.
