Building Feminist Movements on Tax Justice for a Gender-Transformative, Climate-Just Economy  and a UN Tax Convention
Strategy Workshop at the 34th Annual IAFFE Conference
8 July 2026, 10AM-5PM
Universidad ICESI, Cali, Colombia
Registration link: https://forms.gle/F8FapZTkhHUw48sm7

This all-day pre-conference workshop will bring together feminist economists, civil society advocates, and tax experts for a strategic discussion on tax and gender equality, including links to climate action, in light of the ongoing negotiations for the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation (UN FCITC), a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape global tax rules by mid-2027. With current tax systems disproportionately harming women and gender-diverse people, who often pay more in taxes and benefit less, the workshop aims to build a collective understanding of these impacts, develop sharp intersectional analysis across tax, gender, and climate justice, and identify opportunities for feminist academic research and advocacy at the UN to advance fairer, more progressive tax systems that expand fiscal space, especially for Global South countries, and support universal public services and climate action.
Approximately 80 participants will collectively strategize how best to use the opportunity of the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation, as well as the new Tax and Gender Subcommittee under the UN Tax Committee, to advance fairer tax systems and bolster the economic and social rights of women and gender-diverse
